I recently had the pleasure of getting a private tour of Rick McCrank's garage. Okay, not really a tour so much; he stood in the doorway with his arms crossed and watched as I sat on each of the three classic, slightly dusty motorbikes that he keeps in there. One of them is his daily driver, one is there for parts and I think the last one is either waiting to get fixed up or it belongs to another member of the rough-and-tumble motorcycle gang that he's in.
It's thick with the smell of garage in there. Grease and concrete and tools and dirt and spider webs and spare parts and a hint of mold fill the air. I don't ever find myself working in garages, nor can I fix a motorbike with any sort of gusto like Rick can, but I love that mixture of smells that lets you know that there's been some real work going on in there.
SO, to the point here. It's only fitting that Mark Gonzales would draw a motorbike for Rick's guest board on Krooked. More than a passive interest, Rick knows how to take his apart and put it back together (his motorbike that is) and he can surely fix it on the road if it breaks down on one of the many trips that he takes on it. And, like I mentioned earlier, he's in a motorcycle gang (The Creepy Friendly). The dude loves motorcycles.
Below is his part from the recent éS video that, as far as I know, was only released online. The most awesome thing about it is that it's not one of those halfassed "We're saving all the good stuff for our actual video so here's some leftover scraps that might make it look like we're actually thinking about this new-fangled interweb thing that everybody's been telling us about ". Dudes actually filmed full parts for it as if it actually mattered and people might notice if it was halfassed. Go figure!
Download the podcast of it (from Deluxe because éS doesn't have it on their site right now for some reason) or watch in all it's grainy Youtubified splendor below. Then seek out this board. And buy it. |
