In this feature we bring you images, info and opinions on some products
that you can find in stores right now. Unless we think that something's
totally fucking stupid and we feel like we really have to tell you
about how stupid it is, nothing that appears here will ever get a bad
review. In short: this is the best stuff.
Instead of overwhelming
you (and us) once a once with a boatload of products like we did in our
previous Buyers Blitz features, we've decided to break it up into
multiple Blips that we'll be sprinkling every week or two.
Laptop
sleeve by Arkitip x Original Fake x Incase
and (as a special bonus from a couple years ago)
Hipbag by Arkitip x André x DC Shoes x Incase
We're showing
you both the new Original Fake laptop sleeve and the not-as-new
André hipbag for two reasons:
1 because they're
both awesome, simple, effective accessory designs coupled with artwork
from a couple of super inspiring dudes and they both came FREE with
different issues of Arkitip magazine.
2 because we
wanted to boggle your mind and make you ask "How the hell can a
magazine that's been giving away extras like these with every issue
over the span of a few years still exist?" so that we could answer by
saying "With the support of forward thinking companies like Incase and
devoted readers who know a good magazine when they see one, that's how".
LIVESTOCK
MONTHLY PICK:
Nike Air Zoom Moire +
Every month we
bring you our favorite pair of shoes that are on the wall of Canada's
finest sneaker store, Livestock.
REVIEW FOR
SNEAKER NERDS:
These are the speckled Moires that came out last July, the first Nike +
iPod collabs available at Tier 0 shops where you might have been one of
the people lined up to get them. I don't know where Livestock found
them but I'd be willing to bet you won't find them anywhere else aside
from Ebay. Oh, and they've got the grey speckled ones too.
REVIEW FOR NON
SNEAKER NERDS:
These hard-to-find colorways of some now-popular running shoes are
amazingly comfy and sync with your iPod Nano if you buy a separate
adapter. Did I mention that they're amazingly comfy?
Last Buyers
Blitz I wrote about McFarlane's figurine of Chris Pronger, one of the
dudes who helped the Anaheim Ducks bring the Stanley Cup home this
year. So since a Southern California team won the cup it's only logical
that everybody in the world loves hockey now, right? And the story of
Bobby Orr's '69/'70 season with the Boston Bruins is one that doesn't
even need to be told, right? Well here it is anyway, just in case you
missed it in the pages of all of those hockey history books you've been
reading lately...
"In 1970 Bobby
Orr did the unthinkable, doubling his scoring total from the previous
season to score 120 points, six shy of the league record and becoming
the first (and to date, only) defenseman in history to win the Art Ross
Trophy as the league's leading scorer. Besides the Norris and Art Ross,
Orr also captured the first of his three consecutive Hart Trophies as
regular-season MVP and later won the Conn Smythe Trophy for his playoff
heroics, being the only player in history to win four major NHL awards
in one season. He went on to lead the Bruins in a march through the
playoffs that culminated on May 10, 1970, when he scored one of the
most famous goals in hockey history to give Boston its first Stanley
Cup in 29 years. The subsequent image of Orr flying through the air,
his arms raised in victory—he had been tripped by Blues' defenseman
Noel Picard at the moment of shooting—became a prize-winning photograph
and is arguably the most famous and recognized hockey image of all
time."
