Pocket Films for Travelers is a feature film, but not a typical 2 hour piece printed on celluloid that you're accustomed to seeing. I decided to show the deconstruction of the idea before it's final construction on my website. There, I show all of the little pieces that will later become the film: the research, the practicing, drawing, sketching, thinking, listening, watching and everything needed to build an actual film. The site is the film already, but it's kind of in a water under gas state.
The portrait I was trying to build when I began was of an outsider. I wanted to investigate the feeling of not belonging, which is sort of how I've felt all my life, that permanent sensation of being a foreigner wherever I was. So I started to visually research
tourists, immigrants, travelers, nomads, gypsies, migrating birds and everything related to that. This would be a deeply personal project and I would be constantly observing my own behavior in foreign lands.
However, what changed during the process is that now I dont know if I actually belong nowhere or everywhere. The more I do it, the more I feel like I'm inside of it all. Sometimes I just feel deeply mixed with the landscapes and the people.
What I know now is that I have this feeling that just tells me to go and travel and capture whatever I find on the way that touches my heart. I feel like experimenting with sounds and images, imaginary stories on top of situations and the amount of simultaneous actions that surround me.
Here are some of my videos and photos from the past few years...
