Tony Larson is one of the
main ingredients in the Art Dump recipe at The Girl Skateboard Company
Inc. Having been a part of the company for more than half of a decade,
he's designed literally hundreds of skateboard graphics over the years,
many of which could already be considered classics. Of those hundreds,
we gave him the difficult task of looking back and picking out his top
ten favorites, and then commenting on them...
Girl / Koston / 45/ 2004
This deck is from the "45's" Series and I think it truly captures the
essence of Eric Koston. A cock.
Girl / Anderson / Skull
Agents / 2005
This is from the Skull Agents Series and it works for me because it
ties in tattoos, pinstriping, the number 13 and the Agents of The Area
skull logo...Plus Brian rules.
Girl / Carroll / Icons /
2003
I love this board because of the one color shot on natural wood. The
whole series was like that. Simplicity drives what I do really. Plus
Mikey's iPod forever memorialized on a deck seems very appropriate, no?
Girl / Koston / Interiors /
2005
Again, from a series. This series was really me feeling like I had
reached what I wanted to do as an illustrator. Combining realism with
style and taste.
Girl / Magnified /
Rodriguez / 2003
I think this series was cool because of the idea. The magnifying glass
effect seemed to work pretty good and the big logos don't seem to over
powering.
Girl / McCrank / Cafe Racer
/ 2002
Me and Rick both have a love for old bikes, especially the British
Nortons, Triumphs etc..I always imagine that's Crankers leaning into
that turn.
Girl / Howard / Modern /
2001
If I'm ever known for a series it will probably be this one. I think my
vector based illustration style was born in this series and this
particular deck seems to capture all of the things that worked in that
series. I've been offered "top dollar" for the complete series.
Girl / Anderson / Pods /
2002
This kind of reveals my obsession with mid-century art and design.
Girl / Rogers / Bling Watch
/ 2006
This deck took me about 2 weeks to draw..I drew every single little
"bling" on that fucker. I like it because it's definitely an attempt at
photo realism, but as you get closer to it it's just shapes creating an
illusion. My painting background took over on this one.
Skate Mental / Staba / Beer
Bong / 2004
This one reminds me of good times at Pizmo with Bob K, Staba and the
rest of the Girl clan... Camp Whatevs!!
